Wilbur’s at the Hackett shops is a good value, easy, family friendly restaurant with a warm open fire and comfortable atmosphere. Wine is well priced with a range of bottles at around $23.
Meals are well sized making sharing easy. A large pizza, salad and mezzo platter offered a good variety of flavours, textures and colours for four adults and a child to share.

An Indian Affair in Colbee Court Phillip, offers tasty Indian food and warm hospitality in a homely relaxed setting.
The butter chicken and lamb saag were our best picks along with the naan.
We did not try dessert, but the kulfi looked great.

Bollywood Dimensions is a modest, quiet spot in Mort Street, Braddon, serving good Indian dishes at a good price. Not the place for a special night out, but very good for a casual meal with friends.
The samosas are crisp and delicious, the Aromatic Lamb Madras was very good, but the keema naan ( bread stuffed with spicy minced meat) was excellent. Serves are generous and one serve of each fed two of us. BYO welcome and for those who have the Canberra Entertainment Card, also a 25% discount.

The Punjabi Hut in Manuka has taken over a prime location overlooking Franklin street and has a pleasant, homely but quite stylish atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful and dishes are well priced and good value at $16.50 for most mains, desserts $5.50 and $7.50 for two large samosas. I particularly liked the mixed entree platter for two at $20.50 which is enough for four people to sample four different tasty entrees.

Having heard plenty of good feedback about the Green Herring Restaurant and it’s lovely open fire it was a good spot to head on a Saturday night in the middle of a Canberra winter. The duo of dips with bread $5, was a good nibble to have with wine ($9 corkage), but the accompanying thin garlic toasts were a bit too salty. I preferred the look of the cob loaf that went past (also $5). The steak was tender, tasty and well sized, but quite pricey at $38. The Venison was a smaller serve (also $38). The table next to us shared the dessert platter for two ($32), and it had interesting accompaniments along with the individual apple pie, chocolate spring rolls, brulee and steamed pudding. It could easily be shared between 4 people as it’s large and there are really four desserts on the plate. The fire was impressive, but a bit too warm. Service was efficient and included a surprise of complimentary chocolates.

Flavours of India, is Woden’s best spot for Indian food.
The Kadhai Murgh (chicken pieces tossed with onions, tomatoes and capsicums along with coriander and garlic), Paneer Hara Marsala ( cubes of fresh cottage cheese cooked with tomatoes in spinach based gravy and fenugreek leaves), Gosht Hara Marsala (boneless pieces of lamb cooked along with spinach and fenugreek leaves) and the Malai Kofta (cottage cheese dumplings stuffed with raisins and finished in a rich creamy tomato and cashew based gravy) are all delicious.
The Kulcha Paneer ( stuffed bread) was exceptional.
